多溴联苯醚是一类典型的持久性有机污染物（POPs），曾作为高效阻燃剂广泛添加于电子产品、建材、纺织品和家具中。
PBDEs具有高持久性、生物蓄积性和长距离迁移能力，能通过大气、水流和生物链在全球范围内扩散，甚至在极地环境中也被检出。其毒性危害显著，可干扰内分泌系统，影响神经发育和生殖健康，并具有潜在致癌风险。由于其在环境和生物体中的长期残留，对生态系统和人类健康构成严重威胁。
2009年起，《斯德哥尔摩公约》已先后将多种PBDEs列入受控清单，禁止或限制其生产与使用。目前，环境中的PBDEs主要来源于历史残留和电子废弃物不当处理，其污染治理和后续监测仍是全球环境领域的重点挑战。
